Pedra Pintada

A mixed media painting series made during an art residency in Cocais, a small rural village on the edge of the Estrada Real (MG). Living in the heart of the Espinhaço nature reserve, 500 meters from the Pedra pintada site (a Neolithic site), the artist found  abundance of red clay, white clay and yellow pigment. These gems then became a resource for the production of natural pigments.
The work produced during this residency is largely based on the region’s mineral abundance, combining natural pigment with oil and acrylic emulsion. This combination of materials links two geological eras, the Anthropocene and the Neolithic, and their respective aesthetic-philosophical currents.
